Biography
Teresa Ombres graduated from Fordham University and New York Law School and is licensed to practice law in New York and New Jersey. She embarked on her legal career specializing in divorce and family law in 1981 and transitioned to mediation in 1996 following training in Community Mediation and Divorce Mediation. From 2000 to 2003, Teresa served as the Director of the Custody-Visitation Mediation Program at Community Mediation Services for the Queens Family Court. She was among the inaugural cohort of New York City attorneys and mediators to receive training in Collaborative Divorce in 2001. Teresa is deeply committed to her private practice, various professional affiliations, educational endeavors, and workshop presentations. Her caseload encompasses contested matters, mediations, and collaborative cases. Teresa adopts problem-solving techniques, cooperation, and innovation typically associated with mediation and collaborative law even in litigated proceedings. This progressive approach offers a more amicable, cost-effective alternative for resolving divorce matters. Teresa has held positions on the Board of Directors of the Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York and the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals. She is a founding member and Vice President of the New York Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. Teresa is also a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Nassau County Bar Association, and the Queens County Bar Association. She has delivered guest lectures at CUNY Law School and Touro Law Center and conducted CLE workshops at various institutions including Community Mediation Services, Inc., the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation, and the Westchester Bar Association. Teresa led the Judicial Matrimonial ADR Externship program at St. John’s University School of Law for three years and presently instructs the Family Law Practicum at Hofstra Law School.
