Biography

Donald O. Chesworth, a Partner at the Rochester office of Tully Rinckey PLLC, specializes in governmental compliance, corporate law, municipal liability, commercial law, employment law, and management issues. Donald was admitted to the Connecticut bar in 1966 and the New York bar in 1972. While he is no longer actively practicing in Connecticut, he is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Donald graduated with honors from Graceland College in 1963 and received his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 1966. He is a member of both the Monroe County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association. After completing law school, Donald served in the FBI and later joined the law firm of Goldstein, Goldman, Kessler, and Underberg, now known as Underberg & Kessler, in 1972. He went on to hold various positions in the legal field, including serving as the Second Assistant District Attorney of Monroe County in 1976, eventually being appointed as District Attorney in 1981 by Governor Hugh Carey. He was elected for a full term as District Attorney in 1981. In 1983, Governor Mario Cuomo appointed Donald as the Superintendent of the New York State Police. Donald returned to private practice in 1987 and became the Managing Partner of Goldstein, Goldman, Kessler & Underberg. In 1990, he joined the law firm of Harris, Evans, Fox & Chesworth and was appointed Chairman of the Temporary State Commission of Investigation, which he chaired until 1996. In 1993, he co-founded the firm of Harris & Chesworth with Wayne Harris, which later evolved into Harris, Chesworth, Johnstone & Welch, LLP.
