Biography

Irene R. Lax serves as senior counsel at Grant & Eisenhofer, specializing in civil rights litigation. She is a passionate advocate for survivors of sexual assault and individuals facing discrimination, wrongful imprisonment, and various forms of mistreatment. Ms. Lax also handles cases involving Title IX sexual assault and issues concerning federal detention reform. Some of her notable representations include: Aguirre-Jarquin v. Hemmert et al. (M.D. Fla.), a case involving Section 1983 and related claims against defendants concerning the investigation that led to the plaintiff's wrongful death row sentence and 14 years of incarceration for crimes he did not commit. Sterling et al. v. Evanston Township High School District 202 et al. (N.D. Ill.), a lawsuit alleging Section 1983, Title IX, and related claims regarding the sexual assault and misconduct by the school's security officers towards the plaintiff and other female students. Youngers v. MTC et al. (D.N.M.), a legal action alleging Section 504, negligence, and other state law claims against government contractors for their involvement in the tragic death of Roxsana Hernandez, a transgender Honduran immigrant who passed away while in ICE custody. Irene Lax obtained her J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 2012, where she served as an Editor of the Temple Law Review and President of the Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court team. She holds a joint honors B.A. in political science and international development studies from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, earned in 2009.
