Biography
Robert M. Schechter specializes a great deal of his legal work in the fields of firearm rights, civil and criminal lawsuits, contract law, appellate practice, and supporting emerging businesses. He finds fulfillment in the courtroom and has harbored a deep desire to be a trial lawyer. A substantial portion of his legal practice involves guiding clients through the complex processes of New York's licensing authorities in determining the issuance or denial of CCW (gun) permits. He adopts a personalized approach to each appeal and Article 78 proceeding. This experience has also heightened his awareness of the evident unequal treatment many individuals in our society encounter. This distinctive element of his legal work equips him to effectively build defenses in criminal cases. Mr. Schechter is dedicated to being accessible to his clients and diligently provides each client with the tailored attention they deserve.
Prior to becoming part of our firm, Mr. Schechter served at the United States Attorney’s Office, concentrating on cases related to crimes against children and immigrants. He was also involved in prosecuting technology-related crimes involving Intellectual Property. Additionally, he practiced at an international law firm based in Hong Kong, representing a multinational corporation dealing with the aftermath of an environmental catastrophe. Mr. Schechter volunteered his time to support the New York Legal Assistance Group by offering legal guidance to low-income individuals in matters of naturalization and landlord-tenant conflicts. Furthermore, in a bid to reduce the number of juveniles in incarceration, Mr. Schechter authored policy documents while working with the New York Center for Juvenile Justice. Apart from his legal pursuits, Mr. Schechter is politically motivated and has undertaken roles as a Field Organizer, successfully driving high voter turnout in a recent Senate campaign.
