Biography

Bruce Anthony Barket is a co-founding partner at Barket, Marion, Epstein & Kearon LLP. He specializes in defending individuals facing serious criminal charges in both federal and state courts. Mr. Barket has achieved numerous acquittals in high-profile cases involving offenses such as securities/mail fraud, homicide, and racketeering. Over the course of more than two decades, he has built an impressive track record of success in both criminal and civil trials through his determination, resilience, and exceptional courtroom advocacy skills. He is recognized for his ability to secure favorable outcomes in appellate and post-judgment proceedings for clients previously found guilty. Thanks to his vigorous re-investigation of cold cases, Mr. Barket has successfully obtained motions and hearings leading to the reversal of criminal convictions where previous legal representation had fallen short, resulting in the release of clients serving prison sentences. In recognition of his exceptional client advocacy, the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers honored Mr. Barket with the esteemed Gideon Award in 2003 and 2008. He was also named the Practitioner of the Year by the Nassau County Criminal Courts Bar Association in 2005. A respected figure in the legal community, Mr. Barket is frequently invited to speak at Continuing Legal Education seminars, sharing his expertise on trial practice and criminal defense with fellow attorneys. Mr. Barket obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Connecticut in 1986 and commenced his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Nassau County. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and is an active member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Mr. Barket is a regular commentator in the national media, having been interviewed by prominent outlets such as CNN, USA Today, Court TV, Fox News, The New York Times, and PBS's Frontline.
