Biography
Kera Murphy Reed is a lawyer at Burner Law Group, P.C. She became a part of the firm in January 2012 and currently heads the Estate and Trust Administration Department, overseeing all aspects of Probate and Estate administration, as well as estate litigation issues. Kera's legal practice encompasses all Surrogate’s Court proceedings related to appointing an Executor or Administrator of an estate, SCPA Article 17 and 17-A guardianship proceedings, handling and litigating fiduciary accountings, and preparing New York State and Federal estate tax returns. She is also qualified to act as a Guardian ad Litem in Surrogates’ Court proceedings. Apart from her Trust and Estate practice, Kera is certified to provide legal counsel and serve as a court evaluator in Supreme Court Guardianship matters. She is actively involved in the New York State Bar Association Trusts and Estates section’s Executive Committee and serves as the Co-Chair of the Surrogates Court Committee of the Suffolk County Bar Association. Kera also contributes to the New York State Office of Court Administration E-Filing Advisory Committee, aiding in the implementation of E-filing procedures statewide. Additionally, she writes a monthly column on Surrogate’s Court practice in the Suffolk Lawyer newspaper. Kera earned her bachelor's degree from St. John’s University in 2007, graduating cum laude. She obtained her Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law in 2010. During her time in law school, Kera was awarded the Linda Carmody-Roberts Scholarship for her dedication to pursuing careers in Trusts & Estates and Elder Law fields. At graduation, she was honored with a Bronze Level Pro Bono Service Award for her contributions to the Nassau Suffolk Law Services Senior Citizens Law Project. Post law school, Kera has continued her pro bono activities by serving as a court-appointed guardian.
