OSSAI MIAZAD is a Partner and Co-Chair of the Discrimination and Retaliation Practice Group at Outten & Golden LLP in New York. She is actively involved in the firm's Class & Collective Action Practice Group, representing employees in class action and impact litigation aimed at eradicating systemic discrimination. With extensive experience in litigating before federal and state courts as well as arbitration panels, Ms. Miazad currently acts as plaintiffs' counsel in numerous significant class action lawsuits. These cases include challenges to the use of credit and criminal history records for employment decisions, contesting U.S. citizen and legal permanent resident requirements in contracting for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) beneficiaries, and advocating for women facing discrimination in pay and promotion. Her exceptional work on the landmark criminal background check case against the U.S. Census Bureau earned her the prestigious Public Justice 2017 Trial Lawyer of the Year Award. Ms. Miazad has been recognized as a Super Lawyer from 2013 to 2017 and was honored as a "Next generation lawyer" by The Legal 500 United States 2017, a guide to emerging lawyers nationwide. She frequently speaks and writes on employment-related topics and serves as the Co-Editor-in-Chief of "The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act," published by the American Bar Association's ("ABA") Section of Labor and Employment Law. Additionally, she co-chairs the ABA's Subcommittee on the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act ("USERRA"). Ms. Miazad has also contributed to the New York City Bar Association's Committee on Civil Rights and served as a board member of the New York affiliate of the National Employment Lawyers Association ("NELA").
