Biography

Asbestos litigation attorney Audrey Perlman Raphael is a partner at Levy Phillips & Konigsberg, LLP. Audrey was recently recognized in the 2012 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for her work in Mass Tort Litigation. Since joining Levy Phillips & Konigsberg in 1990, she has focused on asbestos litigation and consistently secures numerous multimillion-dollar settlements against manufacturers and suppliers of hazardous asbestos products. Audrey played a pivotal role in uncovering the presence of asbestos in various types of equipment and products. For instance, she was among the first lawyers to depose mesothelioma and lung cancer victims exposed to asbestos from sources like cigarette filters, pizza ovens, welding rods, automotive friction products, and residential boilers. Her early depositions helped establish in courts nationwide the link between these products and asbestos exposure. Audrey remains at the forefront of identifying new sources of asbestos exposure unknown to the public. Additionally, she advocates for individuals who faced asbestos exposure in non-occupational settings such as home renovations, household items, and contaminated work attire brought home from job sites. She is a champion for women afflicted with asbestos-related illnesses despite not working directly with asbestos. In addition to her asbestos and mesothelioma litigation work, Audrey has represented clients injured in construction accidents, car crashes, and incidents involving household devices. She has also advocated for victims harmed by the drug diethylstilbestrol (DES). Audrey has successfully recovered compensation for injured clients by uncovering concealed assets and insurance policies. For example, she prevailed in a case in the United States Bankruptcy Court against an uninsured motorist who attempted to evade responsibility for injuries through personal bankruptcy proceedings. The court's ruling in this case established that individuals committing intentional torts cannot evade liability through bankruptcy laws (In re Kaperonis, 156 B.R. 736 (Bankr. S.D.N.Y. 1993)). Audrey graduated with honors from the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, and holds a Master’s Degree in psychology from New York University. She earned her law degree from Fordham Law School, where she was a member of the Fordham Urban Law Journal. Prior to and during law school, Audrey interned at the Special Narcotics Department of the New York County District Attorney's Office.
