Biography

Janet Fashakin is an experienced lawyer with over twenty years of legal practice, beginning her journey in West Africa in 1990. She earned her undergraduate degree in law from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria before pursuing a Master's in Law at Yeshiva University, Cardozo School of Law in New York. She also holds a doctoral degree in Public Policy and Administration from Walden University in Baltimore, USA, with her dissertation focusing on the challenges faced by African American women upon their release from prison. Janet is admitted to practice law in The Supreme Court of Nigeria, The Supreme Court of New York State 2nd Judicial Departments, The District Court of the Eastern District of New York, The District Court of the Southern District of New York, and The Supreme Court of the USA. She is a licensed Registered Nurse in Nigeria, the UK, and New York State, as well as a Certified Public Administrator in the USA. In her professional roles, she serves as a Guardian Ad Litem for the State of NY in Probate matters and as a Small Claims Court Arbitrator. Janet has been honored as a recognized member of Stratford’s "Who's Who" and received the Top 10 Best 2016 Client Satisfaction Award from the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys. She is actively involved in various legal associations such as the American Bar Association, The New York Bar Association, The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and The Women Bar Association of New York. Outside of her legal career, Janet is the Founder & Global Director of the Ijesa Ladies Union (I.L.U) International, a non-profit organization that supports underprivileged women and children in Ijesaland. She also serves as the National Women Leader for Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) North America and is the Founder of the Macedonia Project, dedicated to caring for poor widows and orphaned children of CAC.
