Biography
Elizabeth Barnhard leads the Pharma/Biotech Practice Group, collaborating with clients to safeguard new innovations and products, particularly focusing on pharmaceutical and biological products and associated technologies. Leveraging her extensive background in the pharma industry and legal practice, she assists clients in developing strong intellectual property portfolios that enhance their business value. With significant experience in conducting, drafting, and overseeing patentability assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses, infringement investigations, validity evaluations, as well as product and manufacturing patent clearances across various domains such as oncology/immunology, infectious diseases, virology, central nervous system disorders, cardiovascular/metabolic disorders, and molecular genetics, she helps clients devise innovative and value-enhancing strategies. Elizabeth is well-versed in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in biological, pharmaceutical, diagnostic, chemical, chemical engineering, and mechanical arts fields, managing intricate patent portfolios for major research and development partnerships, and engaging in transactional and licensing activities. She possesses expertise in all aspects of patent, trademark, copyright, and unfair competition litigation and appeals in federal and state courts, as well as Section 337 proceedings before the U.S. International Trade Commission. Additionally, Elizabeth serves as a Board member and Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property and the Awards Committees at the Westchester Women’s Bar Association, a Board member of Mount Carmel Public Utility Company, and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for the Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship Journal. Her collaborative article with Amy Gallup Klann, titled “Navigating the Evolving Landscape of Patent Law for Building Value Successfully,” was honored as the Editor’s Choice in the March 2015 edition of Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship (Vol. 2, No. 1, pp.14-30).
