Biography

Mr. Sewell possesses extensive transactional expertise and a substantial background in state and federal litigation. Additionally, he has a deep understanding of handling prosecution matters at the United States Patent & Trademark Office and the United States Copyright Office. Dayrel has represented a wide array of patent, trademark, and copyright holders, as well as food and drug companies, business proprietors, non-institutional clients, and more. During his tenure at Kaye Scholer, LLP, Mr. Sewell concentrated on litigation and intellectual property matters. Before joining a large law firm, he refined his skills in New York City at the law office of Ullman, Shapiro, & Ullman, LLP, which specialized in intellectual property, food and drug law, and litigation. Mr. Sewell is also a former member of the prestigious Innocence Project at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He drafted motions and briefs aimed at reopening criminal cases and overturning convictions using DNA evidence, resulting in the exoneration of one of his clients. Dayrel completed a legal internship at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, where he gained experience in patent litigation and prosecution through involvement in Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit litigation and training seminars. He also handled various regulatory issues such as corporate consultant agreements, conflicts of interest, clinical trials, and co-marketed pharmaceutical contracts. To further enhance his legal acumen, Attorney Sewell has provided counsel and litigation services to real estate entities and individuals for several years. He is keenly aware of the systemic real estate crisis and its impact on investors and individuals, and stands ready to aid clients affected by the ongoing crisis that has impacted millions of people. Before attending law school, Mr. Sewell completed his M.P.H. at Columbia University and served as a Director for medical research studies in New York City, meeting academic, medical background, and practicum requirements. He holds a B.A. from The Johns Hopkins University, with a dual major in Natural Sciences and Public Health. In addition to his professional pursuits, Mr. Sewell has dedicated time to pro bono work and is fluent in Spanish.
