Biography
James J. Hsui is a lawyer based in Manhattan, New York, specializing in nonprofit & 501(c)(3) law, corporate and commercial law, and public and private international law. In his private practice, he offers transactional, advisory, and representational services to nonprofit organizations, businesses, entrepreneurs, diplomats, and international (intergovernmental) organizations. With prior experience as the principal legal adviser and political affairs adviser to a senior adviser of a United Nations under-secretary-general, Mr. Hsui also provides international and political affairs support to New York's diplomatic community. His areas of expertise include advising on the formation and structuring of nonprofit and for-profit entities, cross-border transactions, compliance with extraterritorial regulations, mergers and acquisitions, contract law, treaty negotiation, and diplomatic privileges and immunities. Mr. Hsui holds a Juris Doctor degree with a focus on public international law and international business law from Brooklyn Law School, where he was an executive articles editor for the Brooklyn Journal of Corporate, Financial, and Commercial Law. He was honored with a CALI Excellence for the Future Award® in the field of food and drug law, as well as the International Economic Law Prize from Brooklyn Law School. Currently, Mr. Hsui serves as the general counsel for a 501(c)(3) public charity advocating for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and as the Secretary of a working group comprised of high-level diplomats dedicated to addressing mutual concerns between the United Nations and Africa. Additionally, he acts as an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.
