Biography
Starting his career in insurance defense, coverage evaluation, and litigation, Alan quickly transitioned to serving as the chief legal officer for an insurance advisory firm based in New Orleans. In this role, he aided clients in defining coverage requirements, establishing captive insurance entities, managing claims, and minimizing losses. Alan played a key role in the enactment of the Louisiana Oilfield Anti-Indemnity Act and represented the London insurance market in cases related to general liability, marine insurance, and contractual obligations, particularly within the oil industry. Relocating to New York in 2005, Alan expanded his legal practice to cover both New York and Louisiana, concentrating on issues related to construction, contracts, and insurance. In 2007, he partnered with Edward Muccini to establish Sacks & Muccini LLC, which later evolved into the professional corporation Sacks Associates, P.C. in 2014. With extensive experience as a litigator, arbitrator, and mediator in state and federal courts, Alan has successfully argued cases before the United States Supreme Court. He holds an AV rating and is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA), Maritime Law Association (MLA), Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR), and several state and local bar associations, with a particular focus on alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Alan has participated in arbitration proceedings under the American Arbitration Association (AAA), Securities Market Arbitration (SMA), and the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), now known as the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). He is certified for the New York Supreme Court Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) program. In his leisure time, Alan is involved in charitable and fraternal activities, enjoys music, and indulges in the restoration of vintage timepieces and classic automobiles.
