Biography
I have been practicing as an independent attorney since 1999, following my tenure at two well-established maritime law firms in New York City. My current legal focus primarily revolves around federal litigation, particularly in the realms of maritime and constitutional law. I am notably recognized for initiating a personal constitutional challenge against New York's prohibition on owning the martial arts tool called the nunchaku ("nunchucks"). This case, initiated in 2003, remains ongoing as of November 2015, the date of this revision. Throughout my career, I have advocated for numerous individuals in state and federal courts to uphold their constitutional rights pertaining to nunchaku and other prohibited weapons such as the "black cat keychain" and the so-called "gravity knife." I continue to provide legal representation to individuals and businesses in maritime and commercial disputes, and, when required, offer criminal defense services. Since 2011, I have volunteered as a mediator at the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. In both litigation and mediation, my focus is on finding solutions rather than escalating conflicts.
