Biography

Troy A. Smith specializes in Criminal Defense in the State of New York, Federal Courts, and all Military Courts. With over 19 years of experience in litigation and appeals, he has worked as both a former New York City homicide prosecutor and a criminal defense counsel in the United States Army. Mr. Smith has been the lead attorney on more than one hundred trials involving charges such as murder, manslaughter, armed robbery, drug distribution, and various other criminal offenses. He has also handled over a hundred military criminal appeals, including the high-profile case of United States v. Kreutzer. Known as the "Acquittal King" during his time as an Army JAG Criminal Defense Attorney, Mr. Smith achieved one of the highest acquittal rates in the history of the Army JAG Corps.

Mr. Smith has represented numerous clients in various military administrative proceedings, including Courts-Martial, Administrative Separation Boards, Discharge Review Boards, and Boards for Correction of Military Records. He has also appeared on television shows such as "Richard French Live" to discuss high-profile cases like the Trayvon Martin shooting and has provided legal expertise on cases like that of Casey Anthony. Considered an expert in litigating coercive interrogation techniques and false confessions, Mr. Smith has been invited to lecture on this topic by several criminal defense organizations.
