Biography
With his late partner Rex Conrad, William R. Scherer Jr. co-established the firm in 1974. Throughout nearly four decades, Mr. Scherer has developed Conrad & Scherer into a prominent law firm in Florida and has broadened its reach with offices in New York, NY, Brevard, NC, and Quito, Ecuador. Recognized as AV® Preeminent™ Peer Rated by Martindale-Hubbell® since 1987, Mr. Scherer is a seasoned litigator with over 100 trials under his belt in both jury and non-jury cases across state, appellate, and federal courts. His legal achievements and cases have been highlighted by major television networks like CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, and FNN, as well as national and local newspapers such as The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, South Florida Business Journal, the Daily Business Review, the Sun-Sentinel, and the Miami Herald. Mr. Scherer played a pivotal role as lead counsel for victims impacted by the notorious multi-billion dollar Ponzi scheme led by Scott Rothstein. Notably, his expert litigation team secured a groundbreaking settlement that resulted in one of the highest recovery percentages for Ponzi scheme victims, described by news outlets as a "huge victory" and a "landmark" lawsuit. In 2005, Mr. Scherer served as plaintiff's counsel in a high-profile commercial lawsuit concerning the sale of a health insurance company, securing one of the largest damage awards in Broward County history through a jury verdict. During the historic 2000 Presidential Election Litigation in Florida, Mr. Scherer led a team of attorneys representing President George W. Bush and personally represented the President during the Broward County recount. Aside from his litigation practice, Mr. Scherer has also provided counsel to various government entities. From 1988 to 2005, he served as General Counsel to the North Broward Hospital District, a significant public health care provider.
