Biography
With a wealth of over 35 years in varied business environments, including 25 years in the legal field, Mark Palermo has a diverse professional background. Beginning his career at The Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A., he served as a middle market lending officer before pursuing his MBA at Adelphi University. Following his time at Chase, Palermo assumed the role of Vice President, Finance at The Neil Automotive Group. Subsequently, he pursued a full-time education on a scholarship, culminating in a JD from Hofstra Law in December 1993. Leveraging his business acumen and legal expertise, Palermo practiced corporate law at the renowned New York firm of Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP. During his tenure, he specialized in negotiating and documenting debt and equity transactions, forming domestic and offshore hedge funds, and structuring finance deals. Transitioning after a successful stint in law, Palermo assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer at Gordon Brothers Capital, where he was deeply involved in financing distressed private companies. Apart from overseeing the company's operations, he actively managed crisis-ridden companies and facilitated the sale of corporate assets. Palermo then spent 18 years as a dedicated faculty member at The College of Business at Stony Brook University, teaching a range of subjects including Law, Ethics, Finance, Economics, Negotiation, and Business Strategy while continuing his legal practice. Having stepped down from Stony Brook University in 2019, he now dedicates his time exclusively to the legal practice.
