Biography
Barbara Jane Hart is a key figure at Grant & Eisenhofer and plays a pivotal role on the firm’s Executive Committee. With close to thirty years of experience as a frontrunner in plaintiffs’ litigation, Ms. Hart has advocated for institutional investors, including numerous public pension funds, in securities and antitrust cases. She has led the legal team in 4 of the most significant securities class action settlements. Additionally, Ms. Hart has secured noteworthy antitrust and False Claims Act/Qui Tam agreements on behalf of her clientele. Among her notable cases is the representation of around 45 adult survivors of sexual abuse who filed claims against the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, Maryknoll, Rockefeller University Hospital, and the Boy Scouts of America. Ms. Hart has spearheaded these cases following a modification in New York law referred to as the Child Victims Act. Widely recognized for her expertise, Ms. Hart has authored several articles on securities and antitrust law and co-edited the “New York Antitrust and Consumer Protection Law” manual. She is an active Member of the New York State Bar Antitrust Executive Committee and previously held the role of Section Chair in 2014. Ms. Hart has also effectively represented institutional investor clients as amicus curiae on various issues, including New York’s Martin Act. In 2022, Ms. Hart was named in the Lawdragon 500 Leading Plaintiff Consumers Lawyers Guide. She has been consistently listed in the New York Super Lawyers roster for numerous years. Ms. Hart earned her bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University, her M.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where she was a Dean’s List scholar and a member of the Fordham Law Review.
