Biography

Joseph A. Gershman is a partner at Lax, Neville & Intelisano, LLP, specializing in intricate commercial, securities, real estate, and bankruptcy litigation matters. Recognized as an AV Preeminent attorney by Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings, Mr. Gershman is esteemed by his colleagues as a top-notch legal professional and an exceptional litigator. He was honored with The Legal Aid Society’s 2013 Pro Bono Publico Award for his exceptional dedication to the organization and its beneficiaries. With a wealth of expertise in the realms of complex commercial, securities, real estate, and bankruptcy litigation, as well as commercial and securities arbitrations, he has adeptly represented various entities, including financial institutions, hedge funds, real estate enterprises, law firms, litigation trusts, creditors committees, and individuals in a diverse array of commercial disputes. These disputes have encompassed issues such as securities fraud, contract breaches, partnership conflicts, lender liability complaints, RICO claims, antitrust disputes, and endeavors to recuperate assets for insolvent companies' creditors. Before assuming his role as a partner at Rich, Intelisano & Katz, Mr. Gershman held partnership positions at Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman, and served as an associate at Cahill Gordon & Reindel. He earned his law degree with honors from Harvard Law School in 1996, where he was actively involved in the Board of Student Advisers and served as Co-Chair of the Tenant Advocacy Project. Mr. Gershman completed his A.B. degree with honors at Princeton University in 1990, majoring in public policy at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He is a member of the New York State Bar and is licensed to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of New York, Eastern District of New York, and District of Colorado, as well as the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
