I am Ava (Na) Li, the founder of Ava Li Law PLLC, holding licenses to practice law in both China and the United States. Prior to relocating to the U.S., I practiced law in Beijing, where I was a member of the legal team for the 2008 Olympic Games and led the successful defense of the trademark for the “Water Cube.” This particular case underscored the significance of intellectual property as an integral part of a brand’s essence. In 2012, I made the transition to the U.S. to pursue an LL.M. in International Intellectual Property Law at Chicago-Kent College of Law, renowned for its exceptional IP programs. Graduating with honors, I subsequently obtained my J.D. from South Texas College of Law Houston in 2017, recognized for its top-tier advocacy program. It was during this time that I developed a strong belief in the importance of advocating for marginalized voices within the legal system. Throughout my career, I have collaborated with technology firms, legal practices, and a municipal court in Texas, cultivating a pragmatic understanding of how the law impacts daily existence. These experiences served as the groundwork for my current focus on safeguarding the rights of creators, innovators, and families through services encompassing trademark, copyright, business and family immigration (EB-1A, EB-1B, EB-1C, NIW, O-1, L-1, H-1B, marriage-based), and estate planning. In 2019, I was invited to rejoin the legal team for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, offering counsel on intellectual property and entertainment law. When the pandemic struck my hometown in Hubei in 2020, I turned to writing as a means of healing and instilling hope. My narrative, "The Gift of the Nine-Headed Phoenix," was published in UIowa Horizon, reinforcing my belief that a proficient lawyer is also a skilled storyteller. During one such instance, a remarkable software engineer shared with me: “A good lawyer can bring stories to life.” I responded with a smile, asking, “Would you like to be part of that narrative?” Without hesitation, he agreed, and thus, our journey commenced. Established in 2021, Ava Li Law PLLC embodies the principles of professionalism, innovation, empathy, and equilibrium. Our practice merges legal expertise with technological consultancy, specializing in trademark, copyright, immigration, and estate planning. And so, our narrative unfolds, with no end in sight.
