Biography
Nance L. Schick is a New York City-based employment attorney and mediator, operating her firm Third Ear Conflict Resolution since 2003. She is the author of DIY CONFLICT RESOLUTION, providing legal guidance to employers with employees in New York State and addressing workplace conflicts globally to prevent litigation. Prior to attending law school, Nance worked in Human Resources and operations management at United Parcel Service, sparking her interest in employment law. While contemplating law school during breaks, she gained experience in Sport Administration aligned with her undergraduate studies. Her sports career was interrupted by a lawsuit that coincided with her legal education. Nance reflects, "I learned civil procedure both in the courtroom and classroom simultaneously, and saw the potential of mediation, despite the absence of my former employer." Certified in employment and ethno-religious mediation, she represented the International Center for Ethno-Religious Mediation at the United Nations for two years. Nance often supports journalists covering conflict resolution, mediation, workplace disputes, domestic employment, independent contractors, and polyvictimization. She also mentors aspiring mediators through the MediateArt program at Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and various law schools in NYC.
